SELF-EVALUATION OF ORAL PRESENTATION

I recall some posts before I talked about my research project titled Learning Spelling and the presentation of my project to examining board. Besides in English subject we had to present it too, that is why I write this post. The students must record us doing the presentation to our classmates and then evaluate it. 

In the first place I will evaluate the how was the presentation, then got was my body language and eye contact.  All together I will evaluate the structure of my presentation, the content and the language I used. Finally I will evaluate the pronunciation and intonation I used during the presentation. All these sections I'll evaluate below I will do it watching the video which you can see it also in this writing. 

When I was talking about my research project I accompany with a new type of powerpoint that I found in net. The powerpoint was focused in my topic where my classmates could see images and the key words of my project to understand it. Moreover, the presentation lasted the adequate time that was laid down between five to ten minutes, anyways I believe it longs nine minutes so I explain it within the set time. 

On the video I could see I was looking all the time to my classmates and even on occasionally I did they participate answering some questions I asked them. However I read the notes twice during the presentation because my mind had gone blank. Despite this defect, I think my body language and eye contact was quite right. 

The structure of the presentation was suitable due to the research project I did before. Firstly I explained the theoretical part and I showed them who I had verified it with my practical part. On the beginning I let know them which was my objectives and on the end I told them which was my conclusions. For these reasons my opinion is that the structure and content was the correct once. 

Actually it seems to my that all the presentation was brilliant except for a section which is my weakness. It is the pronunciation and intonation, I really believe I know enough the language because I know who use grammar, my vocabulary is varied and I haven't any problem with the use of connectors or fillers. Although I made some mistakes with grammar because I was so nervous, but it was mistakes which I can resolve without any problem. The issue is I don't speak fluid, it is why I think the words in my native language and then I translate it. It difficult my speaking however my pronunciation is quite good and my tone isn't monotone, that is to say, I change the tone during I was speaking. 

To sum up, it is my self-evaluation of my research project. The topic was easy and I worked with it a lot of time, and as I see my presentation was brilliant except my pronunciation because I was nervous and my tongue get tangled up.

GIRLS LOSE FAITH IN THEIR OWN TALENTS BY THE AGE OF SIX

In this post I want to talk about a new I found in BBC news which is addressed to an investigation from New York University, Princeton University and the University of Illinois.

On this research they discovered that after six years old the girls feel inferior to boys. They blame this happening on media, teachers and parents because they are setting up stereotypes. Furthermore, they verify the results doing different activities to children of different ages. 

Then, the article explain two examples of this activities and the results are expected. The girls of five years old are considered themselves as boys, but, on the other hand the girls of six years old are considered themselves inferior to boys. 

They concluded that children have this feelings and ideology because they are exposed to the cultural notion which is present since Adam and Eva exist. The investigators began the study because they were sawing less number of women in careers which need a innate talent for be brilliant. 

So, they started to investigate and discovered this, the girls don't develop this talent because from they are young they feel lower. They suggested that teachers and parents have to make aware to students to work hard because this is the key for succeed. If it is carry out the different gender feelings developed by stereotypes will disappear. 

Finally, I want to comment my opinion of this article. I really believe that here in Spain or also in Catalonia don't happen because women are in the same conditions as men. But it is true that many women feel protected when we have a men near, in this situation it proves the act which these universities investigated. I think women have to be more strong and realize we are better or we are just the same as men.

BEAUTY DIALOGUE

Beauty is an abstract concept, I commented it on others post of my blog,  and we had addressed the last month of the first term and the beginning of the second term talking about it in class. As a final activity in this project we had to write a dialogue related with beauty and then record it.

This activity was done the week before christmas holidays for this reason we made it without effort. I'm not happy with the final result but it was a team work and the rest members of my group didn't want to improve it. We tried to realize our best in this dialogue but obviously not always we get the expected result. 

So, here you can read the dialogue while you are listening the conversation



DIALOGUE

Scenario: A mother and a daughter in a surgery appointment in London.
Characters: Dr. Yassin, Ariadna and Judith.

Dr.Yassin: Well, why are you here? What do you want of me? Tell me.
Judith: Actually my daughter doesn´t know why we are here. My baby, you are completely different to your friends and I really believe that you must change to be beautiful.
Dr.Yassin: Ok!! Great idea. In my opinion she will be perfect if I match her porpotions of the nose and I quit the fat of her jowl. Or if you prefer you can show me a photo of them and I will do my best, so that you look like them.
Ariadna: What?? Are you mod? Come on mom, don´t be dumb!!
Judith: Sssh!! Shut your mouth! This is an adult conversation. Did someone tell you to speak?
Ariadna: It´s my body, It´s my face, you can´t take a decision as that for me.
Dr. Yassin: Yes, she can. She is your mother and lawfully she has power over you.
Ariadna: Both of you are superficial!! It´s illogical. Mom, he only wants our cash.
Judith: Darling, I’m tired of seeing that your friends and people laugh at your apperance.
Dr. Yassin: For this reason, I would like to help you, I would see you pretty and amazed.
Ariadna: But I will not happy if you change the way I’m.
Judith: Doctor, doesn’t listen to her. Today she isn’t receptive, is she?
Dr.Yassin: No, she isn’t.
Judith: So, when can we schedule the operation?
Ariadna: I will do it if you also carry out a plastic surgery.
Dr. Yassin: Yes, of course. I can apply a discount. Right now we have a family pack.
Ariadna: That’s geat! Mom, you agree, don’t you?
Judith: No, I’m perfect! I don’t need any surgery.
Dr.Yassin: But Madam, do you have a husband?
Ariadna: No, she hasn’t doctor. She is as lonely as tits without nipples.
Dr.Yassin: Aren’t you interested in finding your charming prince?
Judith: Ok. So, what’s the offer?
Ariadna: Doctor, we will do it. 
Dr. Yassin: Great !!

CASTELLÓ D'EMPÚRIES

Have you ever stopped to think if you despide your town ? Well, I've done it often and these last days I went over the town for appreciate the magnificient town where I live. My village is called Castelló d'Empúries, it belongs to Spain in the autonomus community of Catalonia, in the province of Girona. 

The counts of Empúries move to Castelló d'Empúries form Sant Martí d'Empúries on the 11th century because pirates often attacked them there and they wanted to change the localitation of their country. So, Castelló became the capital of the country d'Empúries during centuries. 

For this time, the medieval times Castelló mainly lived by commercial sector, craftwork and administration of the Counts. The village began to increase and the town had to expand. On the 18tn, 19th and 20th centuries Castelló lived by agriculture and cattle industry. Finally during the 20th century Castelló underwent a major transformation because built Empuriabrava, a residential marina, which develop tourism. 

These days that I was investigating the town I found some monuments that I didn't know what was their origin or monumnets that I didn't know that their exist. This monuments are: 

A Carline tower: Was built for protect the town from carlines during the second half of the 19th century. The November of 1784 the carlines won a battle called The Fire of Castelló which caused the ruin because the village was burned. 





The market: It is a 15th gothic building. Some authors said that it are remains of a market which complemented the central one, and other authors said that it are remains of the major hospital of Castelló founded in 1252.




Basilica Maria del Mar: It is a gothic church located in the ancient city center. The church that we see today is a building constructed avobe a romanic church. 













This three monumnets are the once that I like most. But there are more monuments in my town that are awesome, so I invite you to come and visit my medieval town.

DO YOU HAVE SPELLING PROBLEMS ?

Do you ever heard of the Research project in Catalonia ? It is an investigation which carry out the students of baccalaureate and they deliver it the second year. The study consist in find the correct information of your topic and then do a practical part that have to show the theory to reality.

This week I submit my research project orally to my examining word. The experience was incredible and I'm proud of my results. I mature during this project becasue improve my mentality and I learned how make a perfect research. 

Since I learned to write I do spelling mistakes and although I try to improve it, my efforts are useless. For this reason I wanted to investigate why this happen to me and to others students. My research project is titled Learing Spelling. During the summer I study what is spelling, the cognitives process of the brain, the traditional method that is the most ancient method that the teachers train to students. 

I found which is the problem which cause this low level in spelling to some students. The problem is that we don't use the correct cognitive process. Learing spelling consist to develop the visual memory, if you developed this memory you'll visualize the words in your head before write it. But if nobody show to sudents to develop the correct cognitive process they use the once easy. and it is auditory memory. The students who use this kind of memory have spelling problems because they write as they pronounce or listen the word and everybody know that wirtting is completely  different to pronucnce. 

So, the solution of spelling problems is learn to use the correct cognitive process which is visual memory. It is a complex topic that took up seventy pages on my research project and here the investigation is very summary.
